Baking Week 1 – Chocolate Chip Cookies

Welcome to the first entry into my weekly saga learning to bake. Every thursday I will try a new baking recipe and let you know, what I did, and more importantly what went horribly wrong. As of the start of this, I cant bake a damn thing, my last attempt at baking went quickly from the pan into the garbage. So for the first week Im gonna start very simple with chocolate chip cookies, the old standard that everyone loves.

Ingredients

  1. Flour – 1 + 1/8 cups
  2. Salt – 1/2 tsp
  3. Baking Soda – 1 tsp
  4. Eggs – 1 egg
  5. Sugar – 6 tbsp
  6. Brown Sugar – 6 tbsp
  7. Unsalted Butter – 4oz
  8. Vanilla – 1 tsp
  9. Chocolate Chips – 1 cup

Directions

  1. Mix your Flour, Salt, and Baking Soda together in a bowl.
  2. In another small bowl mix an Egg with the Vanilla.
  3. In a separate bowl chop up your butter into small squares and add your Sugar, and Brown Sugar. Mix until its a brown pudding consistency.
  4. Add your Egg / Vanilla bowl from step to into your bowl from step 3 and mix like mad.
  5. Slowly add in your bowl from step 1 and keep mixing.
  6. Finally add in your Chocolate Chips and stir it all together.
  7. Put your bowl in the fridge for 30 minutes to let the whole thing harden up.
  8. Pre heat your oven to 325C.
  9. Take clumps of your dough and roll them into golf ball size balls and place them on a cooking sheet with lots of space between them.
  10. Put in the oven for 17-19 minutes.
  11. When there done take them off the pan and place on a flat surface to cool and harden up.
  12. Consume.

Todays recipe went surprising well given my history, the only this is I used some oil to grease the bottom of my cooking sheet instead of butter or cooking spray and it made the bottom of my cookies a little more crispy then I was expecting. But all in all they turned out good. Next week since I have a ton of left over chocolate chips Im gonna try Chocolate Chip Muffins, that seems like a nice easy transition.
